T-Mobile G1 Touch
The T-Mobile G1 Touch is a very eagerly anticipated phone, and for good reason, since it is one of the few phones in the market to make use of the Google Android OS.
The T-Mobile G1 Touch’s screen is quite good, even better than that of the iPhone, even though it is a bit smaller than the one on the iPhone.
Any phone which brings a full QWERTY keyboard into play should be great, right? In the T-Mobile G1 Touch’s case, it isn’t. The weight of the phone is, to a large extent, due to the QWERTY keyboard. Another disconcerting feature of the keyboard is the colour combination. The backlight clearly shows the silver present on the keys but the orange on the ALT is nearly invisible. It becomes worse if you are in a place with low – light as the ALT keys just ‘disappear’!
There are a great variety of applications present in the G1 which really makes your mouth water. The included apps include IM, mobile YouTube, in-built Calendar, integration with Amazon MP3, Email Client, a music player and a fully – fledged web browser. The voice dial feature, something which has been on Nokia phones for ages now, is now there on this phone. This feature enables you to dial a number by just saying the contact’s name. However, the cream of the crop is the Google Maps, which is so accurate as to ensure that you will never get lost wherever you go!
As far as initial setup goes, the most strange part about the process is that you need a Google account in order to activate the phone – that includes activating it on the network – in this case, T-Mobile. As I wasn’t really on the plan for the G1, I couldn’t get the phone activated immediately, which meant I had to sort it out with the customer care before I could do so.
