Vodafone: Making Philanthropy Easier
The mobile phone is a very powerful device. In the past few years, the average handset’s purpose has increased from simply being able to receive calls and text but also for handling emails, media and many other functions. People have come to trust the mobile phones to handle reminders for bills and other payments. Phones have also been the main channel for many micro transactions as well.
Among the things that people can do with mobile phones is to donate to charity, and the task is as simple as simply texting a single message to a specified number by a network operator.
It may not seem like much, but since the advent of text based donations, plenty of charities and causes have celebrated the influx of additional funds, and the number of people getting involved is also growing.
This is thanks to the very nature of the mobile phone. Unlike having to donate through other channels, the mobile phone is a medium that is always there by user’s sides. There is no need to fill up special forms, seek out representatives or even travel to distant offices. The entire transaction is managed in a few simple taps of the button, and as long as your handset has a signal, you can send the donation from almost anywhere you could be.
Vodafone UK has announced that it is going to improve the already impressive phone donation system. And to do this, the network operator has decided that the entirety of the donations being sent will be given to the charities: no transaction charges at all.
The big news is a great plus for many generous folks who worry about the additional transaction costs that add up in the monthly bills. Of course, the people that Vodafone is helping out the most here would be recipients who stand to gain a significantly bigger amount from donations.
