Zynga’s Farmville is Now on Apple
It looks like Facebook farming fans have plenty to rejoice about this week as Zynga officially launches the Apple iPhone Farmville game application. For those wondering why there is plenty of fanfare for the launch of this simple Facebook application, it is because Farmville was originally a Flash based browser game.
This meant that Farmville could not originally be played on Apple iPhone devices. With all the previous fuss about Apple vehemently refusing to support Adobe’s web format, it meant that a vast majority of browser based games would not be playable on Apple’s touch screen devices. The launch of a special app that brings the Farmville experience to mobile phone users will certainly be a welcome addition for many users of the app who owns an Apple iPhone.
Farmville is a virtual farming simulation where players have to take care of a virtual farm. From planting seeds to harvesting crops, these digital farmers find themselves trading and exchanging farm produce with friends and contacts in order to expand their farms. Social networking is an integral part of the experience which means that players have to be part of the community in order to make the most out of the game. Aside from taking care of crops, there are also virtual pets and farm animals that players have to take care of as well.
The launch of this app is a major milestone for Apple –who has been pushing for the stop of use of flash content on the internet. While this goal will certainly not succeed, the fact that game developers such as Zynga are seeing the need to create iPhone compatible ports of Flash games is still a major win for Apple.
At the same time, Google Android users will also be able to access Farmville. The Flash Player for Android 2.2 is already out and players will be able to access Farmville and any Flash based web applications as well.
