Apple Meets Microsoft: Windows Live Messenger for iPhone
While it will not give you Windows Phone 7 functionalities, Microsoft Windows Live Messenger is now compatible with the Apple iOS 4. The software comes in the form of an app which is compatible with the Apple iPhone (as well as, of course, the new iPhone 4), iPad as well as the iPod Touch. This gives users the ability to use the popular instant messaging function of the app and integrates social networking to it as well.
That being said, Microsoft Windows Live Messenger for Apple combines its core functionality with MySpace, Facebook, Flickr and YouTube compatibility. The app also comes with a few bonuses such as integrated Hotmail support.
Twitter is noticeably missing from the group, but fear not. Even if it is not included in Windows Live Messenger’s list, there is an existing official and independent Twitter app for the iPhone. Because of their recently acquired rights to the Tweetie app (plus, having the official developer along for the ride, the Twitter team will most likely announce iOS4 technology updates of their very own.
Despite the missing Twitter compatibility, this does sound like a very promising little app for those who still have active MSN accounts. Those who have more friends over at Yahoo! Messenger can also opt to import their contacts in MSN for easier account management. Those who are veterans to using the computer version of the app will find this system familiar. The good news is that this gives you the freedom to manage two sets of accounts in one go.
Like the classic MSN for computers, you get notified of any received IM messages when you log in. Stored photos can also be shared easily whenever you want. While in conversations with your friends, you can upload to albums as well.
The best part of all is that this app is free for anyone who wants to use it. Drop by the App Store to grab it while it’s hot.
