Google Mobile App for the iPad Comes with Free Bugs
Google seems serious about tapping into the Apple market. They are so serious in fact that they immediately released an update for their Google Mobile App in order to accommodate the newest part of Apple’s family, the iPad. Unfortunately it seems to have been rushed and is still filled with bugs such as screen reorientation problems as well as app launching bugs.
It is not even able to open other Google services while inside the app and instead just opens Safari to access it ala web URL bookmark. Since the mobile app supposedly serves as a portal for Google’s search services, it is crippling that it is having problems integrating this to the mobile app.
The reason may lie on the nature of the app itself. It is a universal app for all of the Apple devices (namely the iPod Touch, the iPhone and now the iPad). Both iPod Touch and iPhone users seem to safe, meaning iPad users are experiencing the bulk of the bugs. Some of them are even turning to unconventional methods to get around the problems. Take this user for example:
“Tired of using the app to search something only to see the app close and open Safari, well no more. Open the app and tap the settings tab scroll all the way down till you get to “About”…keep scrolling like if there was something past About. The screen will bounce letting you know it can’t scroll any further. Don’t stop, keep at it [and] eventually you will see a new title under about bells and whistles. That’s another submenu tap that and you will find new options like color themes for the app, two new sounds for when you do voice searches as well as open search within the app option.”
Since update version 0.5.0.3644 is not fulfilling its intended purpose, perhaps another update is in order ASAP.
