Early Success with Day One Sales of the iPad

The Apple iPad is currently the “it” gadget to have today. Despite the device only having been launched in the US (the UK launch is dated for later this April), the initial first day sales of the touch screen tablet has hit the 300,000 mark. Current sales estimates for the Apple device has now reached up to 700,000 and many predict that it may hit more than million before the end of the week.

There is a significant degree of surprise in regards to the sudden success of the gadget. Many believe that the device has yet to prove itself as a necessity and despite this many people still believed that purchasing an iPad would be a great decision.

The reasons for buying the gadget are many; some were simply buying the device out of the simple need to own the latest gadgets, others saw varying degrees of uses for it. Many agree that the tablet turns internet access into something that anyone can relate to –even old people. While the keyboard and mouse are counter-intuitive devices that require some explanation to operate, touch screen controls are easier to understand without any detailed instructions.

Kindle and other eBook reader users are more hesitant to get the iPad, but they recognize the device as more than just a reader which makes the gadget worth investing in.

Original critics of the device have cited the lack of Flash and multitasking to be serious drawbacks, as well as not supporting USB devices and other missing features. Surprisingly, the lack of multitasking is not so much a concern as the lack of Flash which makes many websites inaccessible –something that Apple is trying to remedy bit by bit with applications like the YouTube app. Still, this would alienate websites that do not have apps.
