The Samsung I5700 Pass or Fail?
The Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700 has finally hit the shelves in Europe and the CIS. It will soon be available in the United States, the Middle East and Asia. The Spica is the follow up Android mobile phone to the Galaxy i7500, which became available only a few months ago. There has been some changes, some significant, most of them are not. The Spica has many of the same features that many of the other smartphones on the market do. It is also pretty similar to other Android mobile phones.
One of the biggest changes is Spica’s ability to support DivX video. This is a huge coup for Samsung. Watching movies on ones phone is becoming increasingly popular. The DivX support abilities allow Samsung to cash in on it. This is a pretty big upgrade and will likely entice a segment of the mobile phone market to switch over, as it is one of the first mobile phones to have this capability.
The Spica is also fast. It utilizes an 800 MHz processor, making it one of the fastest mobile phones on the market. This allows users to quickly shuffle through their computer and search the internet. One of the biggest selling points of the Spica will be the Android operating system that it uses. There are plenty of apps, many which can be downloaded from online. It is even possible for users to create their own applications.
Samsung also upgraded the batteries used in the Spica. It is a longer lasting one, which will result in less charging and more talking or movie watching.
While the Spica has some great features and notable upgrades, there are some negatives. The internal memory isn’t as robust as in some other smart phones on the market, only 180 MB. However, it is possible to add more memory by using a SD card, up to an additional 32 GB of space.
Other notable features of the Spica include the autofocus, 3 megapixel camera and GPS. Currently, O2 is the national carrier in Europe. There is no word yet on if this arrangement is exclusive but we can’t wait for all those great Samsung Galaxy Spica on O2 deals.
