Acer neoTouch F1, Out for a Month and Doing Well
Whoever said that Acer had no place in the mobile phone industry did not see the F1 coming. Acer’s neoTouch F1 is an impressive Qualcomm 1 GHz Snapdragon mobile phone running Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional. Unlike the HTC HD2, WinMo on the F1 runs raw without any proprietary interface from Acer. Critics of the OS would be happy to know that the entirety of the 3.8 touch screen for the F1 is resistive so using a stylus instead of your finger is the preferred choice (perfect for Windows Mobile’s interface).
The onscreen virtual keyboard takes up a significant amount of space however, and seems to be a better fit on a capacitive touch screen than being prodded with a stylus. This phone could have used a physical keyboard.
1 GHz Makes a Difference
The Snapdragon processor makes the mobile phone run very smoothly. WinMo 6.5 is reported to perform optimally at 528 MHz, giving the F1 lots of slack to make the phone experience seamlessly smooth. The bulk of neoTouch F1 reviews comment on the phone’s Windows-centric design. Considering Acer is primarily a computer company, this comes as to no surprise. That, along with the large screen and the Snapdragon, the F1 also sports a 5 mega pixel camera, and supports A-GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, and 3G network bands. The neoTouch F1 fails to show what it actually does with all the power of the Snapdragon, as Acer’s first at a 1GHz device, they certainly have a lot more to prove.
Availability
As of this moment, the neoTouch F1 is out and it is available on both O2 and Orange at various plan options. This Snapdragon mobile phone is free on most plans and can be availed of at half price on others. It’s a good investment, provided you have no problems using the Windows Mobile OS. Acer offers not other applications and services, so users are limited to the base features of the Windows Mobile OS.
